We are over the moon to be hosting a very visit from emily m. danforth, author of the acclaimed coming-of-age novel, (and bookshop favourite) The Miseducation of Cameron Post.
When Cameron Post’s parents die suddenly in a car crash, her first thought is relief. They’ll never know that hours earlier, their daughter was kissing a girl. However, Cameron’s relief is short-lived when she is forced to live with her conservative aunt and old fashioned grandmother in rural Montana, and she knows from this point on, her survival depends on fitting in – and definitely NOT coming out.
emily is in be visiting Edinburgh to celebrate the release of the film adaptation of her novel, and joins us to talk about the inspiration behind her book, her own experiences growing up in a conservative community and how it feels to have her debut novel made into a film.
‘If Holden Caulfield had been a gay girl from Montana, this is the story he might have told-it’s funny, heartbreaking, and beautifully rendered’ – Curtis Sittenfeld
