We’re tickled pink to be welcoming the brilliant Nora Chassler for the launch of her third book, Madame Bildungsroman’s Optimistic Worldview. Her previous work has received critical acclaim and adoration for its punchy, exciting and eccentric style; her latest offers just that!
In this collection of ‘fragments, pensées and table-talk’, Chassler turns her attention to the great questions of contemporary life and literature, aided by a papier-mâché mannequin named Madame Bildungsroman. Together, they exclaim visions and visitations, proclamations and protestations, fierce one-liners and bittersweet memories; each offering a unique insight into the mind of one of our most original writers.
The evening is sure to be a wild one with a chance to hear readings from Chassler’s work, quizz her about her writing and enjoy some jazz!
Praise for Chassler’s previous work:
“Nora Chassler’s extraordinary Grandmother Divided by Monkey Equals Outer Space breaks all moulds … it is a triumphant vindication of the edgy, eccentric demotic as a compelling narrative voice.” — William Boyd, The Guardian
“Somewhere between Nabokov and Bret Easton Ellis … Chassler’s characters elicit real emotion. Their stories grip you to the last and leave you wanting more.” — Chris Dolan, The Herald
Having worked as a fashion-model, cocktail waitress, social worker, television director’s assistant, taught english in college, Chassler now lives in Edinburgh since completing her masters in creative writing at St. Andrews and teaches English at George Heriot’s School.
