Helen Fields : Criminally good Fiction

7.30pm start, Thursday 7th September, in the Bookshop. First 20 places FREE.

We’re living in a golden era of crime fiction – writers like Denise Mina, Kaite Welsh and Chris Brookmyre are pushing the boundaries of the genre and us readers keep expecting more…

Enter former criminal barrister, Helen Fields, who has made a splash with her phenomenal new Scotland based DI Callanach series, and will have you all gripped with its first two installments: Perfect Remains and Perfect Prey!

During her time at the Bar, Fields undertook cases that ranged from Children Act proceedings and domestic violence injunctions, to large scale drug importation and murder, spending years working with the police, CPS, Social Services, expert witnesses and in Courts Martials.

Having spent considerable time with some of the UK’s most disturbed and depraved criminals, she has now put this experience to use by turning her hand to crime writing, giving an insight into the criminal and legal world in which she has immersed herself over so many years.

Her books have already garnered rave reviews and she’s rubbing shoulders with Rankin, Anderson, Mina and McDermid for the prestigious McIlvanney Prize this year.

It is a largely uncontested fact that crime writers have the best craic – readers who’ve met the likes of Chris Brookmyre, Doug Johnstone, Lin Anderson Val McDermid and Ann Cleeves know this to be true – and Helen Fields can make you guffaw like the best of them! I would know, I’ve twice had the thrill of hearing Helen speak and she is captivating.

So as the autumn evenings draw in, join us for a candlelit evening of crime fiction!
