Edinburgh Radical Book Fair 2017

The 21st Edinburgh Radical Book Fair : 16th – 19th November.
The Fair will be open from 11am – 6pm every day, with further evening events : Full program to be announced Thursday 19th of October.

The Edinburgh Independent & Radical Book Fair was established by Wole Soyinka in 1996 and was run for 20 years by Word Power Books. In May 2017 Word Power relaunched as the Lighthouse Bookshop under new ownership and we’re thrilled to bring back this beloved Word Power event.

This year the Fair’s opening speaker is the former director of Liberty, Baroness Shami Chakrabarti and our second keynote address will come from author, poet and activist Michael Rosen!

Other highlights include panels on the Refugee Crisis with Jackie Kay,  Building a Fairer Society with Annie Miller, Vickie Cooper and Ruth Patrick, and Protest in Britain, talks by John Crace, Mark Muller Stuart and Judith Orr and the launch of the new Boshemia Magazine, with the creators discussing 21st century feminism.

These are but a snapshot, with more events to be announced, as well as a list of exhibiting publishers, writers and activist groups. This year’s Radical Book Fair will take place at the Assembly Roxy in Southside, just a stone’s throw from the Bookshop.

Events will take place during the day and in the evenings – We will be launching our full program on October 19th, when booking can begin! To stay tuned for details do sign up for our newsletter: HERE.

The central aim of the Radical Book Fair is to showcase the best progressive publishing, exposing readers to new and diverse voices and subjects, and starting new conversations. The Fair will be open from 11-6 each day – a true fleemarket of books and ideas, and a great alternative to the season’s hyper-commercialised Christmas Fairs.

The fair is child friendly and we’ll have many of the bookshop’s favourite Children’s authors and publishers featured!

If you are an indie publisher or activist group and you would like to have a stall at the 2017 Radical Book Fair please do get in touch with Mairi by October 15th: mairi@lighthousebookshop.com. Please note a nominal fee does apply for all Stall bookings in order to cover the costs of running the Fair.
