Struggling is not failing

The shameful school meals debacle which unfolded at the start of January offered a cruel reminder of the government's disdain for our most vulnerable. But also the enduring stigma around poverty that permeates our society.

Even though many of us will have experienced tough times financially, or know someone who has been through a similar thing, the stories and experiences of people struggling to get by have tended to be marginalised or misrepresented.

Kit O'Sullivan wrote us a special piece reflecting on The Good Benefits Claimant and Why The Food Package Scandal Was Predictable. We created this book list as further reading.

Do remember we have a pay-it-forward pot which anyone is welcome to use to cover book costs- just email us with the books you're after, tell us to use pay-it-forward and we'll get your books sent out. Could be cookbooks, picture books, novels or poetry - whatever you want to read, we've got you.

Need a helping hand, or looking to support some great groups? We recommend this lot for starters:
