This event is PART 1 of a 3-night extravaganza, where three feminist bookshops have joined forces with Boudicca Press to celebrate Disturbing The Body, a subversive collection of speculative memoir about misbehaving bodies. Disturbing The Body Body will launch across three nights, with Lighthouse, Five Leaves and Housmans bookshops each hosting a new pairing of writers. From illness to major medical operations, child-bearing to pain and chronic illness to disability, Disturbing the Body sets out to explore the many ways women feel powerless and at odds with their own bodies. In a dozen stories reflecting memoir, experience and body horror, this is an anthology full of heart that is not for the faint-hearted. The three-part launch picks out common threads from the book to give you the following: PART I: THIS EVENT! Chịkọdịlị Emelụmadụ & Verity Holloway explore women's bodily experiences by subverting, fusing and playing with memoir & genre fiction - like fantasy, and horror. Verity, a co-editor of Disturbing The Body, penned the stunning, disturbing visceral story "Oh, Oramorph! And the First Drafts of God" and Chịkọdịlị gifted us the utterly captivating, playful and insightful "Yolk". As our chair person, to explore these phenomenal works, we're thrilled to have the writer Katalina Watt, who took part in our 2019 Radical Book Fair night of Feminist Horror.
