We are thrilled to get to announce another event for this year's FIRST DATE FESTIVAL, which we are thrilled to run in partnership with Book Lovers Bookshop!

Join us for an event which combines deep knowledge of folklore and legend with fantasy, romance, swords and stags, and so much more...

In Jean Menzies' The Lady of the Lake, Lady Viviane leaves the lakes of the far North for the splendour of Camelot to capture the heart and hand of the young prince, Arthur. But it is Arthur’s sister Morgan who captures Viviane’s eye...

In R.M. Brown's Song of the Stag, Cait finds herself torn between her childhood sweetheart Kenzie and the Queen's Watch and the Separatist Fox of Thorterknock and her tales of a secret heir to Storran’s long-empty throne,..

About our speakers:

Dr Jean Menzies is an ancient historian, presenter, and author from Scotland. She holds a PhD in classics and has dedicated her career to making history, mythology and folklore accessible on and offline. Her first book Greek Myths: Meet the Heroes, Gods, and Monsters of Ancient Greece was published by DK in 2020 and won the Books Are My Bag Breakthrough Author Award that same year. Her debut historical fantasy novel The Lady of the Lake reimagines Arthurian legend and is published by Michael Joseph. Jean can also be found making content under ‘jeansthoughts’ on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

A proud Dundonian, Rebecca M. Brown is an English and Creative Writing alumna and co-founder of the charity Folklore Scotland. Armed with an obscene number of folklore books, she and her husband strive to preserve the tales of the past for a new generation by digitising stories, recording podcasts, and of course, hunting for fairies.
