On the final friday of Book Fringe 2023 at Lighthouse, we are delighted to hear from sociologist Akwugo Emejulo, whose new book Fugitive Feminism is published by Lighthouse favourites Silver Press.
Akwugo examines the legacy of key Black voices in feminism as well as the tenaciousness of ‘Othering’ in humanity. Her book ultimately serves as a radical manifesto for Black women to determine the nature of their own liberation, calling for a new model for action. We’re excited to hear about her ideas behind ‘fugitive’ feminism and how fleeing can often be freeing.
Akwugo is joining Lighthouse as part of this year’s Book Fringe: ALT Edition in partnership with two other Edinburgh indie bookshops – Argonaut and Typewronger.
