Maria Sledmere & Ian Macartney
Join us for the Edinburgh launch of the latest Tapsalteerie poetry book, languishing, cute. With readings from both Maria Sledmere and Ian Macartney, a discussion between the authors on their collaboration, and a Q&A.
languishing, cute presents a collection of jittery missives that propels the speculative Scottish canon of Edwin Morgan, Alasdair Gray and Naoimi Mitchison into maximalist ‘high femme goth surrealism’ via hyperpop, Celtic futurism and digital culture. Here the poets tend towards e-pistolary contemplations of retro-adolescence, fizzy ecology and mercurial slippy gurlhood... complicating notions of Scottish identity, nationhood, ecology and nostalgia along the trippy way.
Released alongside this is the limited-edition risograph pamphlet languishing, cute: GATE – B-sides and 'remixes' from the original manuscript, via Earthbound Press and Mermaid Motel.
“Messy as a teenage tumblr, flashy as a strobe light” – Dan Power
“Endless aureate refreshment” – Iain Morrison
"Funny, para-kitsch and mesmeric" – Richard Price
