More Than a Glitch: Meredith Broussard on Confronting Bias in Tech

Featured Speakers

Meredith Broussard, hosted by Nicole Gipson & Ahmed Honeini

This event will be live-streamed at 7pm to this page (video will appear in the image above)! Make sure to log in to take part in the chat.

When technology reinforces inequality, it's not just a glitch—it's a signal that we need to redesign our systems to create a more equitable world.

“With unmatched clarity and galvanizing insight, Meredith Broussard demystifies the mathematical underpinnings of AI and slays the magical mythos of Big Tech like no other! Everyone who cares about the future of tech and society should read this book yesterday.” - Ruha Benjamin, author of Race after Technology and Viral Justice

We are thrilled to collaborate with our friends at the Journal of American Studies to host a virtual event with the esteemed American academic Meredith Broussard.

Her new books challenges readers to ask what if racism, sexism, and ableism aren't just bugs in mostly functional machinery—what if they're coded into the system itself? In the vein of heavy hitters such as Safiya Umoja Noble, Cathy O'Neil, and Ruha Benjamin, Meredith Broussard demonstrates in More Than a Glitch how neutrality in tech is a myth and why algorithms need to be held accountable.

This event will involve a short talk, followed by a discussion with the Associate Editors of the Journal of American Studies (Nicole Gipson & Ahmed Honeini) and then a Q&A with our online audience.

Please note the event will be recorded, but only available to watch back for 30 days after the event.
