We’re delighted to get to open the second edition of FIRST DATE with a pleasure workshop with somatic sex therapist Emily King!

The workshop:

Through learning to be with pleasure, learning to let the body lead, we can gain deeper access to our voice, our choice, our boundaries. Self-advocacy & safe sex shouldn’t fully depend on our capacity to say no, it should also include our willingness to lean in & to follow pleasure.

This workshop involves facilitated group discussions, embodied practice & reflection to explore themes of consent, pleasure, communication & self-expression. Participants will be supported to reflect on their own experiences as well as to connect with those of others.

The facilitator:

Emily is an Irish somatic sexologist & pleasure activist currently based in Edinburgh. She established her thriving private practice in 2023 & since then has supported hundreds of people through 1:1 & couples client work, various sell-out events & through her online platform, Pleasure Hub.

Emily’s experience within the field of professional sexuality began during her masters thesis project where she researched the effectiveness of using pleasure-based sex education as a tool to eradicate violence against women and girls. She became inspired to train as a relationships and sex educator, and progressed to work in the criminal justice sector to support women in prison as well as their rehabilitation in the community. From here she moved into the gender based violence sector where she continues to work as an advocacy worker for women selling sex in Edinburgh.

Emily specialises in the needs of women in her private practice and brings a unique approach to somatic sex therapy, grounded in her direct experience of working with complex needs - substance misuse, compulsive sexual behaviour, trauma, domestic abuse, sex work - while pushing boundaries of mainstream therapeutic care to offer people a direct, hands-on & truly holistic avenue of support.
