The Future Generations Book Group: The Breaks *ONLINE* with Julietta Singh

image for event: The Future Generations Book Group: The Breaks *ONLINE* with Julietta Singh

The Future Generations Book Group explores what it means to live and think with future generations in mind at a time when uncertainty often makes it feel all but impossible.

*We will be online for the time being*

As with all Lighthouse book groups, this is a free, safe and encouraging space in which to ask questions, be inspired by each other and the books we read. We'll be exploring how historic and current injustices shape our connections to the future, including the role of colonialism and racism, as well as reproductive justice. What does it mean to act with hope for future generations, and how can art help connect us to the future? Together, we'll also think about what a Future Generations Day, in Edinburgh, in 2022 might look like.

For our fourth meeting *postponed to January 31st*, we'll be reading The Breaks by Julietta Singh, a fiercely intelligent, honest and brave vision of parenting, mixedness and queer family making amidst collapse, written in the form of a letter to the author's six-year-old daughter.

Update: Julietta will be joining us for a Q&A in the second half of the event!

You're welcome to join us for as many or few sessions as you're able to. Please order your copy of The Breaks from the bookshop - which supports the books and helps us cover the cost of running bookclub - get a 10% discount using code MUSHROOM-LIKE-TENDRILS If you're broke please do use our pay-it-forward fund (the code is SOLIDARITY-BOOK-LOVE at checkout) or support your local library.

If you've booked a ticket and can no longer attend, we'd be thrilled if you could let us know, as this will allow others to come along when we've reached capacity!

The Future Generations Book Group is hosted by David Farrier, author and Professor of English Literature and the Environment, University of Edinburgh, and Jessica Gaitán Johannesson, author, climate justice activist and Digital Campaigns Manager at Lighthouse.
