Simon Pirani & fellow voices against Putin's War
Though human rights in Russia have been largely crushed and fair trials are non-existent, one moment of free speech is still allowed, and that is the right of a prisoner to make a statement before verdict and sentencing.
Join us for an evening to mark the publication of Voices Against Putin's War - a compilation of protesters' defiant speeches in Russian courts.
The reading is a selection of four statements from a larger compilation of voices sentenced for social media posts or simply laying flowers to commemorate the dead. The Russian state has given their verdict. The evenings asks for yours: should these voices be silenced?
Local volunteers lead by storytellers Beth Cross and Morna Burdon bring these voices to life. Simon Pirani, the translator and editor, will then explain the background, with Q&A to follow.
