JJ's top three of 2024
JJ
December is here and it's time to round up the Lighthouse team's favourite books of 2023! As usual, the brief is simple but strict (although there are those who find creative ways of expanding it…): three books you read, although they may not necessarily have been published, this year. The publishing schedule is swift and unforgiving and we also want to share the love with all those older books we fell in love with in 2024.
It's time for JJ's top-three:
Poor Artists by The White Pube - speculative non-fiction that makes the case for artists withdrawing their labour from an exploitative industry and creating for something new....
A Flat Place by Noreen Masud - The first nature memoir I read and loved, a tender exploration of living beyond trauma, finding solace in being yourself and choosing your own wellbeing.
New Suns: Original Speculative Fiction by People of Color - great bed time or commute reading spanning sci-fi, fantasy and historical fiction. If you love Adrienne Marie Brown, Octavia Butler or N.K Jemisin, you'll love this.
