Let's Change The Act: Abortion Rights Today
Mairi
We're honoured to continue our collaboration with Let's Change The Act and the vital campaign to modernise Scotland's archaic abortion laws.
For too long in Scotland we have had to settle for a system of abortion law that doesn’t put our needs, health and rights first. We deserve a modern abortion framework that is in sync with the realities of modern healthcare, upholds human rights for all those that need abortion and prevents harmful police investigations and prosecutions.
The rise of the right and its continued and strategic focus on rolling back bodily autonomy (from abortion laws to trans and queer rights) make it more important than ever to go on the offensive. Our rights, enshrined in law, is part of the pushback against their toxic visions of patriarchal futures.
With that in mind, some books to help you go all in on the issue, and we'll be back with another Postcards for Abortion Rights at the end of May.
Come write a postcard or craft your own unique cards:
1) to send to Parliamentary candidates and Scottish political parties, in support of decriminalising abortion in Scotland.
2) to send to abortion care providers in Scotland to thank them for showing up for patients when we need them most and if you want. share your experiences of abortion.
You can simply write a letter in company, collage a card with some information from the Let's Change The Act campaign, craft a piece of art inspired by thoughts of bodily autonomy, and feminist activism - it's really up to you.q
You can also find out more about the Campaign and the work of Engender or sign up to get involved at a special drinks reception on Weds 13th May, after our event (re)introducing Shere Hite—the feminist hero whose notorious work revolutionized how we think about sex, marriage, and the female orgasm and who once appeared at Edinburgh's Radical Book Fair...
