The Bright Side: books on optimism and utopian thinking
Hannah
What do we mean when we talk about feeling optimistic? What's the meaning of optimism beyond a simplistic attitude of 'it will be alright' and how might daring to imagine that better things are possibe make them more likely to happen?
In his book, The Bright Side, astrophysicist-turned-journalis Sumit Paul-Choudhury offers practical suggestions on what it really takes to be an optimist today and, in doing so, provides a powerful manifesto for hope and a much-needed new perspective on our prospects. He shows how, by embracing action, imagination and possibility, we can find a path to the bright side, even - perhaps especially - when the future seems dark.
We pulled together a list of books that engage with the idea of optimism, from everyday choices to the courage it takes to imagine - and work for - better futures.
