Pragya Agarwal

'Read this book and feel furious, uplifted and galvanised to take its findings out into the world and fight for change' - LAURA BATES

We're thrilled to welcome the bestselling author and behavioural scientist Dr Pragya Agarwal to the bookshop for feminist salon in collaboration with Edinburgh Uni's Feminist Society! We've been fans and champions of 3 of her previous books - (M)otherhood,Wish We Knew What to Say and Sway so it's especially exciting to actually have her in person in the bookshop to discuss her latest: Hysterical!

In Hysterical, Agarwal dives deep into the history and science that has determined the gendering of emotions to ask whether there is any truth in the notion of innate differences between the male and female experience of emotions. She examines the impact this has on men and women - especially the role it has played in the subjugation of women throughout history - and how a future where emotions are ungendered might look.

We'll kick things off at 4pm with Pragya introducing her book, we'll have a wide ranging discussion about Hysterical, with lots of opportunity for you, our audience, to engage and question and contribute. We'll then have a drinks reception, with an opportunity to get your book signed, and to meet fellow feminists!
