British Palestinian writer N.S. Nuseibeh joins us to delve into the experience of being an Arab woman today and in the distant past, touching on myth, faith, feminism, identity, illness, race and more!
N.S. Nuseibeh’s ancestor was the legendary Nusayba Bint Ka'ab al Kazrajiah, who fought alongside the Prophet Muhammad at the dawn of Islam. Drawing on Nusayba's stories, Nuseibeh seeks to understand her namesake in the context of her own twenty-first century concerns, arriving at urgent and intimate questions about courage, heritage, gender, home and Arab feminism, as well as religion and nationhood.
It’s a delight to host N.S. Nuseibeh on this Edinburgh visit, and to introduce you all to one of the Lighthouse favourites of the last few years!
