This year we're celebrating the summer solstice in the garden with an enthralling story of sibling rivalry, queer attraction and the high-pressure world of classical music!

Jane Healey is the author of The Animals at Lockwood Manor and The Ophelia Girls. In her new novel Crescendo, piano prodigy Max and his twin sister, and manager, Natasha interrupt a tour when Max begins to make mistakes on stage. They escape to a Paris villa belonging to Henri, a wealthy count. whose affections beguuile them both.

In anticipation of our midsummer launch of Crescendo, we went in search of novels where music plays a central role - as the work and obsession of characters (Briefly, A Delicious Life, Do Not Say We Have Nothing), as history and culture (There, There), or guiding the very shape of a book (The Big Music), following classical composers as well as boybands and rap artists.

Which musical novels would be on your list?

Join us on Sunday June 21st in the Lighthouse garden to celebrate Jane Healey's absolutely enthralling Crescendo! Tickets are here.
