Trans kids deserve Better: Drop the Ban
Artemis
'The children are always ours’ - James Baldwin
All kids deserve life, a future and a present, childhoods and adolescence and adulthoods shaped by love, marked by joy, and full of possibility. The recent decision to permanently ban puberty blockers for trans youth (and trans youth only) shows yet again, that our government doesn’t think the above is true for trans kids. Which means they don’t believe it’s true for trans people.
Dignity is not the preserve of adulthood: respect kids, listen to them. If this is the season of giving, then start by giving a shit: Fight for trans kids. Protect trans kids. Love trans kids.
Begin with and email to your MP and @wesstreeting to demand they lift the ban on puberty blockers and offer trans kids the same access to medical care as their cis peers. It's 10 minutes of your day, you can do it.
Not sure how puberty blockers work/what they are and why they have been banned, Ellen Jones has written a brief overview HERE. And there is a terrifically written piece on trans healthcare
