Feeling Good: on desire and intimacy

Following in the spicy footsteps of our First Date Romance festival, June brings two events which explore desire and intimacy in wildly different ways.

Whereas Anastasiia Fedorova's Second Skin takes us on a tour of fetishes, bringing subversive desire out of the dungeon and into the light, Melissa Febos' new book The Dry Season is a memoir about the author's year of celibacy and everything she learned during it.

Looking at these seemingly contrasting titles side by side made us go in search of our favourite books about the complexities of desire: bodily and intellectual, desire in polyamorous relationships and in the context of disability, books that examine desire from an asexual perspective and from the perspective of grief and loss. How does desire relate to food culture, and to ecology?

Together, these books expand a small word into a multitude of human experiences. We hope you discover something new!

Anastasiia Fedorova joins us on Tuesday June 17th to launch Second Skin. Tickets are HERE.

On Thursday June 26th we welcome Melissa Febos in conversation with Dina Nayeri to discuss The Dry Season. Tickets are HERE.
